The Quiet is Calming
Sunrises come in different intensities, much like sunsets. The nesting season for loons is relatively short, especially when you are trying to capture an image when the babies are still tiny and cute. The chances of getting a magical sunrise to coincide with the 7-10 day period the babies are tiny is slim. But as long as I get my feet on the floor at 3am I have a chance to get out the door, drive to the pond, get the kayak into the water and hope. It’s critical to actually be sliding the kayak into the water nearly an hour before the sunrise to allow for time to pull everything together. It’s been a bit since I shot this photo, but I remember that morning like it was yesterday. It is this “quietness” that I am drawn to and I never tire of it.
